The St. Louis Blues have placed goaltender Jaroslav Halak on the injured reserve with a groin strain, head coach Ken Hitchcock said Sunday.

Jake Allen has been recalled from Peoria of the American Hockey League and will serve as Brian Elliot’s back up. Halak is expected to return next weekend.

NHL.com’s Lou Korac reports Halak suffered the injury on Henrik Zetterberg’s breakaway goal in the first period of the Blues’ 5-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings Friday night.

Halak is 3-0-0 with a 2.10 goals-against average and .889 save percentage with two shutouts in five games this season.
