The New York Rangers will be getting their starting goaltender back just in time for the last few regular season games, and in plenty of time to get ready for the playoffs.

The team announced Friday evening that Henrik Lundqvist will return between the pipes Sunday when the Rangers take on the Anaheim Ducks.

“There’s some thinking behind it,” Lundqvist said about playing Sunday and not Saturday. “Trying to get a good plan over the next three or four days. It made sense to play Sunday. Get in a good skate today and a morning skate tomorrow and we’ll be ready, hopefully.”

Lundqvist has missed the past seven games in a row after sustaining a hip injury in a 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers on March 7.

“He’s ready,” said head coach Alain Vigneault. “He could play tomorrow without a doubt, but this way with the 7:30 start (Saturday) and then the 6 o’clock start (Sunday), (goaltending coach Benoit Allaire) felt that it was a better fit for him.”
