As reported by The Sun Sentinel Saturday night, Panthers defenseman Erik Gudbranson did indeed sustain a serious shoulder injury, one that required surgery last Thursday.

There’s no timetable for his return at this point and this opens the door for Keaton Ellerby again to prove he can be one of the core six blue liners.
