Three players have been added to the roster for the Detroit Red Wings’ Alumni Showdown game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Dec. 31 at Comerica Park, according to The Detroit Free Press.
Joining the Red Wings’ lineup are defensemen Paul Coffey and Mathieu Dandenault and forward Martin Lapointe.
Former coach Scotty Bowman and former assistant Barry Smith will be behind the bench for the Red Wings during the game, part of the Hockeytown Winter Festival at Comerica Park.
The game in Detroit is a prelude to the New Year’s Day Winter Classic against the Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium.
Among the other Wings old-timers scheduled to play are Alex Delvecchio, Ted Lindsay and Mickey Redmond.
Meanwhile, former Wings forward Darren McCarty – who also is scheduled to play in the alumni game – will sign pregame autographs at Wuerfel Park in Traverse City before Tuesday night’s minor league baseball game between the Beach Bums and the Joliet Slammers.
Traverse City players will wear special jerseys during the game that then will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to research for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
