The Detroit Red Wings are already without star centre Pavel Datsyuk and now they’re down a No. 1 goalie as well.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Jimmy Howard was put on the 48-hour IR for a groin injury. The team has called up Petr Mrazek from AHL Grand Rapids and will back up Jonas Gustavsson for Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Gustavsson will get his season debut against his former team.

The team says Howard’s injury is a minor one. The goalie will be eligible to return to the Red Wings lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.
