Carolina Hurricanes’ captain Eric Staal skated on his own at practice on Sunday and could return to the lineup before the end of the team’s current West Coast road trip, according to Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer.

Staal was hit by New York Islanders forward Matt Martin on Oct. 11 and has been out since with what the team has called an upper-body injury.
In two games, Staal has one goal and one assist to go along with a plus/minus rating of minus-two.
