The Detroit Red Wings suffered another injury to their depleted blue line.

Defenceman Ian White is expected to miss up to three weeks after having surgery Wednesday to repair a deep laceration to his leg.

White left Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to the Dallas Stars when he was cut by the skate blade of his goaltender Jimmy Howard.

“He had a very deep laceration,” Red Wings general manager Ken Holland told reporters on Wednesday. “No damage to any tendons, but some of the muscle was detached. During surgery, Dr. (Doug) Plagens reattached some of the muscle.

The Red Wings are already without defenceman Carlo Coliacovo and Jonathan Eriksson, who both suffered injuries in the team’s first two games of the season. Coliaocovo was placed on the IR on Tuesday.

In need of depth, the Red Wings signed veteran defenceman Kent Huskins on Tuesday but are not expected to add another free agent or bring anyone up from their American Hockey League affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins.

According to Ansar Khan or MLive.com, Detroit’s defensive corps will consist of Huskins, Niklas Kronwall, Kyle Quincey, Brendan Smith, Brian Lashoff, and Jakub Kindl in their next game.

The Red Wings have a 1-2 record and take on the Minnesota Wild on Friday night.
