Islanders GM Snow: Streit will not be traded

Mark Streit is in the final year of his contract with the New York Islanders.

Mark Streit will not be moved by the New York Islanders at the NHL Trade Deadline, according to Hockey Central Insider John Shannon.

Streit, who is in the final year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent after the season, was the subject of recent trade rumours.

It appears the Islanders would prefer to keep the veteran defenceman for the stretch run of the season as the club currently sits in eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Streit has five goals, 15 assists, and 20 penalty minutes in 37 games this season.

The 35-year-old has been with the Islanders since signing as a free agent in the summer of 2008.

The Switzerland native spent the first three seasons of his NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens, who drafted him in the ninth round of 2004 NHL Draft.
