Nikolai Kulemin might have played his final game with the New York Islanders.

The team announced Monday the forward will be out six months after undergoing upper-body surgery.

The 31-year-old was on the receiving end of a hard hit from Eric Gryba in a game against the Edmonton Oilers on Nov. 7. The hit occurred near centre ice and Kulemin went hard into the boards before heading to the locker room.

The pending unrestricted free agent had one goal and two assists in 13 games this season. Kulemin signed a four-year, $16.75-million deal with the Islanders in 2014. He has registered 79 points in 248 games in an Islanders uniform.
