Islanders sign defenceman Scott Mayfield to five-year extension

The New York Islanders have signed defenceman Scott Mayfield to a five-year contract extension, the team announced on Thursday.

Mayfield’s new deal runs through the 2023-24 season.

The 25-year-old blue-liner, selected 34th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft, has 10 points in 29 games for the Isles this season.

Mayfield has played in 65 career NHL regular-season games with the Islanders and two playoff contests. The majority of his time in the pros has been spent with New York’s AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, totalling 12 goals, 38 assists and 411 penalty minutes in 223 games.
