Islanders sign RFA Scott Mayfield to two-year deal

Brian Gionta scored twice including the winning goal in overtime as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the New York Islanders.

The New York Islanders have signed restricted free agent defenceman Scott Mayfield to a two-year contract.

Mayfield was a second-round pick (34th overall) of the Islanders in 2011. He’s spent most of the past three seasons with New York’s AHL affiliate in Bridgeport.

The 23-year-old has played in 11 career NHL games, and scored his first NHL goal last April against the Buffalo Sabres.
