It’s no secret that St. Louis Blues goalie Jake Allen has struggled for stretches this season, but a recent letter from a young fan might have been the spark he needed to turn his game around.

Scott Gilbert posted the letter from his five-year-old son Mason on Twitter back on Jan. 31. It read, “Dear Jake Allen, you are my favorite [sic] player. I hope you win tonight. I know you can do it. You’re a great goalie. Love, Mason. I’m five years old.”

In the time since, Allen has gone 4-0-1 and on Monday was named the NHL’s second star of the week. With the monkey off his back, Allen invited his biggest fan to practice to thank him in person for the support.

“Any time you can make a kid’s day, it’s a no-brainer,” Allen told NHL.com. “It doesn’t matter what the situation is, when it is, where it is. As soon as I saw him this morning, it put a smile on my face and a smile on his. I’m glad I got to speak to him after.”

“It’s pretty cool,” Allen said. “It shows probably what kind of parents he has, what kind of family he’s brought up in.

“I believed in myself. I’m glad he was on my side.”

Allen and the Blues will look to continue their run of success when they visit the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.
