The Carolina Hurricanes continue to add to their 2017-18 roster, signing Jake Chelios to a one-year, two-way deal on Tuesday.

A defenceman, Chelios will either make $650,000 in the NHL level or $85,000 while playing in the AHL. The son of Hall of Fame defenceman Chris Chelios, Jake was solid last season with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, posting a career-high 32 points while also taking on the responsibility of being an alternate captain.

Despite signing with the Hurricanes as a free agent in 2016, the 26-year-old, who stands at six-foot-two and 185 pounds, has yet to make his NHL debut.
