The Winnipeg Jets addressed its rapidly thinning defence corps on Thursday by acquiring veteran defenceman Jay Harrison from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a 2015 sixth round draft pick.

The Jets are currently without Zach Bogosian, Tobias Enstrom, Mark Stuart and Jacob Trouba, who are all dealing with some form of injury.

Harrison was averaging 16:30 minutes per night with the Hurricanes, and brings some size and experience to a severely depleted Jets team.

Harrison has one more year left on his current contract that sees him check in with a $1.5 million cap hit. The Hurricanes will pick up a portion of his salary.

In 20 games this season Harrison has one goal and four points to go along with a plus/minus rating of minus-5 and 42 PIM.

Harrison, 32, was a third round pick (82nd overall) of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2001.
