The Winnipeg Jets have signed defenceman Tucker Poolman to a one-year entry-level contract with an annual value of $1,775,000, the team announced on Thursday.

Poolman, 23, was selected by the Jets in the fifth round of the 2013 draft, 127th overall. The native of East Grand Forks, Minn., scored 30 points — seven goals, 23 assists — in 38 games with the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks this season.

The six foot three, 210 pounder earned National College Hockey Conference Defensive Defenceman of the Year honours and was also named to the All-NCHC First Team and All-NCHC Tournament Team. Poolman tallied 20 goals and 52 assists in 118 games over three seasons with UND.

The Jets also announced that Poolman will now undergo bi-lateral shoulder surgery, with the first procedure scheduled for later this week. Poolman’s availability at training camp this summer “will be determined upon completion of his second surgery,” the team noted in a release.
