Jets Stanley Cup odds steady after blockbuster

The Winnipeg Jets dealt disgruntled forward Evander Kane to the Buffalo Sabres this week and brought back defenseman Tyler Myers and forward Drew Stafford, and they’re still sitting in the middle of the pack on the odds to win the Stanley Cup as they try to improve their playoff positioning in the weeks ahead.

The latest Stanley Cup odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com have the Jets down the list at 33/1 to win the championship this spring – which is slightly better than the 40/1 odds they were pegged at a few weeks ago. Winnipeg sent the injured Kane plus defenseman Zach Bogosian to Buffalo for Myers, Stafford, a first-round pick, and a pair of prospects; they head into the weekend sitting in a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.

The Chicago Blackhawks are atop the latest Stanley Cup odds at the sportsbooks at 11/2 despite the fact they’d picked up only five wins in their last 10 games heading into the weekend. Another team with just five wins in their past 10 games are the Anaheim Ducks, and they’re the 13/2 second-favourites on those updated NHL futures, with the St. Louis Blues sitting third at 10/1 odds. The Blues trail just the Ducks and the Nashville Predators in the Western Conference standings.

Nashville, despite leading the entire NHL in points, is then back in a group of teams at 12/1 on the latest Stanley Cup betting lines, with the Predators joined by the Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Montreal Canadiens. The Habs are the top Canadian team on those futures lines at the sportsbooks as they battle the Bolts and Red Wings for first place in the Atlantic Division.

The New York Rangers are then at 14/1 on the updated Stanley Cup odds, while the San Jose Sharks are tied with the defending-champion Los Angeles Kings at 16/1. The Kings, despite winning the title last season, are in danger of missing the playoffs this season.

The Washington Capitals are then at 25/1 with the Minnesota Wild at 28/1 before we find the next Canadian team on the list – the Vancouver Canucks – at 33/1. The Calgary Flames, who are in the thick of the race for a playoff berth in the Western Conference, then sit at 50/1 on the updated odds to win the Stanley Cup, with a big jump from there to both the Dallas Stars and the Colorado Avalanche at 100/1, and the Florida Panthers at 150/1.

As for the other Canadian clubs, the Ottawa Senators are tied with the free-falling Toronto Maple Leafs at 300/1 on the NHL futures list, while the Edmonton Oilers are off the board altogether as they race the Sabres to the worst record in the entire league this season.
