The publicly-funded, privately-owned sports stadium was the target of a wicked new essay performed by John Oliver on HBO’s Last Week Tonight Sunday.
As pointed as it is hilarious, the comedian’s 20-minute rant skewers the lavishness, foolishness and greed that surrounds so many North American stadium projects.
Of particular interest to NHL fans are the jokes made at the expense of the Detroit Red Wings’ new home (2:55 mark) in the face of bankruptcy and the Arizona Coyotes’ Glendale dilemma (13:58), which stars fan Ronda Pearson in a nice Beatlejuice joke.
