Kentucky Derby favourite Nyquist spends time with Stanley Cup

Kentucky Derby entrant Nyquist and trainer Doug O'Neill pose with the Stanley Cup before the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby horse race at Churchill Downs Saturday.

The Stanley Cup is on site at the Kentucky Derby.

The prestigious NHL trophy was brought to the event on Saturday for Derby favourite Nyquist, the horse named after Detroit Red Wings star forward Gustav Nyquist.

Nyquist, had 2/1 odds to win the event, remains unbeaten after winning the Kentucky Derby on Saturday evening.

According to The Associated Press, Nyquist’s owner, Paul Reddam, who grew up in Windsor, Ont., is a big supporter of the Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wings star could not attend because he is taking part in the World Championship for Team Sweden

Nyquist and trainer Doug O’Neill posed for pictures with the Stanley Cup and the race horse stuck his nose into the trophy at one point.
