Less than 12 months after he was traded by the Montreal Canadiens to the Nashville Predators, P.K. Subban is on the cusp of capturing his first-ever Stanley Cup.
Last year, Phil Kessel was in a similar situation. He was dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins by the Toronto Maple Leafs before last season, and went on to win his first-ever Cup with the Penguins.
Both players can sympathize with one another in that regard, which is why it was no surprise when Kessel was asked about Subban’s road to the Stanley Cup Final.
“I know what he’s going through,” Kessel told reporters during media day on Sunday. “Obviously he wants to win really bad because he got — I’d say — the shaft in Montreal a little bit, and that’s how it goes. So you want to prove people wrong.
“I know what he’s feeling like.”
Not everyone is on Subban’s side, though. His former teammate, John Scott, told ESPN’s E:60 crew that the defenceman is a “piece of garbage” and that Subban “thinks he’s better than everybody.”
Subban has been solid thus far in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He’s recorded a solid two goals and 10 points with a plus-6 rating in 16 post-season games.
