The Los Angeles Kings and forward Trevor Lewis came to terms on a four-year, $8-million contract extension Saturday, thus avoiding unrestricted free agency.
The 29-year-old Lewis, a native of Salt Lake City, appeared in a career-high 75 regular-season games last season with the Kings.
He registered 16 points and 20 penalty minutes and was selected as the Kings Unsung Hero (voted by the players) for the fifth consecutive year.
In five playoff games against the San Jose Sharks, Lewis potted two goals, tying him for the team lead.
A first-round (17th overall) selection of the Kings at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Lewis has appeared in 424 regular-season games all with the Kings, posting 89 points.
In 75 playoff games, he has 23 points and was part of both Kings championship squads.
His previous deal, a two-year pact, carried a $1.525-million salary cap hit.
Some recent contract comparables for Lewis’s new deal include fellow depth forwards like Tampa’s Brian Boyle, Pittsburgh’s Eric Fehr and Anaheim’s Ryan Garbutt.
