Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Mike Komisarek is expected to miss 7-10 days after hurting his finger in a fight Wednesday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Komisarek dropped the gloves twice in the game, fighting Penguins winger Arron Asham in the second period and then facing off with Michael Rupp in the third. A clearly frustrated Komisarek was a minus-2 as the Leafs lost the game 5-2.
The Leafs were without Komisarek on Thursday night when they dropped a 4-1 decision to the Philadelphia Flyers at the Air Canada Centre. Captain Dion Phaneuf returned to the line-up after missing over a month with a leg laceration. He registered one assist in over 24 minutes of play.
Komisarek has struggled to settle in since joining the Leafs as a free agent before the 2009-10 season. In his first year with the club, inconsistent play and injuries saw the American defenceman finish with a disappointing four points and minus-9 rating in only 34 games.
This season, Komisarek has seven points in 27 games while seeing his ice-time reduced, often in a diminished third-pairing role on Toronto’s blueline.
