The award goes to the player “who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey.”

The nomination was awarded by the Toronto chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

Rielly is in his fourth season with the Leafs, surviving a regime change and rebuild since being drafted fifth overall in 2012.

The 23-year-old has six goals and 27 points in 68 games, and is second on the team in average ice time, playing 22:15 per game.
