Back on the bus: Leafs assign Mueller to AHL

The Toronto Maple Leafs have assigned forward Marcel Mueller to the American Hockey League’s Toronto Marlies, the club announced on Friday.

Mueller was originally recalled by the Leafs from the Marlies on Jan. 15 and later that night made his NHL debut against Calgary at Air Canada Centre. In three games with the Leafs he recorded two penalty minutes while going scoreless.

Mueller has played 39 games with the Marlies this season and has registered 20 points on seven goals and 13 assists, along with 34 penalty minutes and a plus one rating. The Leafs originally signed the 22-year-old native of Berlin, Germany as a free agent on Jul. 14, 2010.

The Leafs are coming off a 5-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday and will host the Washington Capitals Saturday night.

The Marlies’ next home game is against the Peoria Rivermen at Ricoh Coliseum on Saturday.
