The Toronto Maple Leafs have called up defenceman Viktor Loov from the AHL’s Marlies on an emergency basis ahead of Thursday night’s game against the New York Rangers.

The move was made after Matt Hunwick left practice early and is questionable to play Thursday,

Loov was selected with the third-last pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, 209th overall and has yet to make his NHL debut.

The 23-year-old has one goal and 10 assists in 48 games with the AHL-leading Marlies, and is a plus-12.

Hunwick has spent much of the year playing with Morgan Rielly, and has one goal and seven assists in 54 games. He is in the first year of a two-year, $2.4-million contract.
