Sam Gagner’s days with the Edmonton Oilers could be coming to an end rather quickly.

According to Hockey Central insider Nick Kypreos, the Los Angeles Kings are willing to ship forward Kyle Clifford as part of a package to acquire Gagner in a deal that could be finalized as early as Thursday.

Hockey Central insider Mark Spector says one detail the teams are discussing is how much salary the Oilers would be willing to retain in a potential deal.

Hockey Night in Canada’s Elliotte Friedman first reported the Kings’ interest in Gagner on Tuesday.

“I think there are a couple of moving parts there, including: Are the Oilers willing to take a key part of the salary to make that work from a cap point of view?” Friedman told Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

In 45 games this season Gagner has registered six goals, 17 assists, 31 penalty minutes and a minus-20 rating.

Gagner, 24, was drafted sixth overall by the Oilers in the 2007 NHL Draft.

Clifford, 23, has five points and 63 penalty minutes in 48 games this season.
