Maple Leafs’ Dzierkals drafted into QMJHL

Toronto Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan spoke to reporters about drafting smaller players and the trade market for his team at the draft.

Martins Dzierkals, a third-round selection of the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2015 NHL Draft, has been drafted by Rouyn-Noranda of the QMJHL 22nd overall in the first round of the CHL Import Draft Tuesday.

Dzierkals is expected to join the Huskies for the 2015-16 season.

Dzierkals played with HK Riga out of Latvia in the Russian junior league. He totalled 10 goals and 28 points in 32 games.

Alexander Nylander, the brother of Maple Leafs prospect William Nylander, was taken 12th overall in the CHL Import Draft by the Mississauga Steelheads.
