Maple Leafs’ Kadri out with lower-body injury vs. Oilers

Gord Stellick, Nick Kypreos and Doug MacLean debate the fine issued to Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without forward Nazem Kadri Thursday night when they face the Edmonton Oilers.

Kadri will sit out with a lower-body injury.

Kadri was fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for a throat-slash gesture he made at Calgary Flames defenceman Mark Giordano on Tuesday.

Jared Cowen will have to wait to make his Maple Leafs debut, as the 6-foot-5 defenceman will not be in the lineup Thursday. Cowen was acquired from Ottawa in the nine-player trade that sent Dion Phaneuf to the Senators earlier this week.

Kadri has 11 goals and 28 points in 52 games this season.

The Oilers host the Maple Leafs at Rexall Place. The game can be seen live on Sportsnet West and Rogers Game Centre Live beginning at 9 p.m. ET.
