Michael Grabner poked a little fun at himself on Thursday night.
The Toronto Maple Leafs forward made reference to his own struggles on breakaways during Game 5 of the Tampa Bay Lightning–Detroit Red Wings first round playoff game.
The Red Wings were denied by Ben Bishop on several breakaway opportunities in the second period. The Lightning goaltender finished the game by stopping all 27 shots he faced as Tampa Bay beat the Red Wings 1-0 to take the series 4-1.
Grabner scored 34 goals with the New York Islanders in 2010-11, but hasn’t managed to get back to those totals since. He scored just nine goals for Toronto this season. And, as anyone who has been a fan of a team Grabner has played on knows, he still struggles to convert on those breakaways.
