NEW YORK — Boston Bruins left-winger Brad Marchand was named the NHL’s first star of the week Monday after helping his team to a pair of home victories.

Marchand had six points (four goals, two assists) over two games last week.

He recorded his first career hat trick and first five-point game in an 8-0 rout of the Florida Panthers on Friday. Marchand also scored the winner in a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Dec. 19.

New York Rangers right-winger Marian Gaborik took the second star, while Colorado Avalanche goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere was the third star.

Gaborik had five points (4-1) over three games.

Giguere posted a 3-0-0 record with a 1.60 goals-against average and .951 save percentage.
