The Boston Bruins haven’t played the Toronto Maple Leafs this season. In fact, the Original Six clubs won’t meet until Nov. 10.
However, Bruins forward Brad Marchand has been paying attention to the Atlantic Division rival, specifically Auston Matthews.
Marchand let that be known early Friday morning with this tweet.
Rather than praise, the tweet could also be Marchand at his pesty best, poking fun at the fawning media coverage of the young Leafs star early on this season.
Matthews has six goals and 10 points in seven games to open the season, helping the Leafs to a 6-1-0 record. The 20-year-old centre is coming off a 69-point season that netted him the Calder Trophy and looks like he may be able to eclipse that total this campaign.
Marchand, of course, knows a thing or two about defending against juggernaut forwards. He finished 12th in Selke voting last season, so watching the battle between him and Matthews should be fun next month.
