TORONTO — T.J. Brennan of the Toronto Marlies has won the Eddie Shore Award as the American Hockey League’s outstanding defenceman for the 2013-14 season.
Brennan is currently fifth in the league in scoring with 69 points (24 goals, 45 assists) in 73 games.
He has a league-leading 42 points on the power play for the North Division champion Marlies while leading all defencemen with 12 power-play goals.
A native of Willingboro, N.J., Brennan was originally selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round (31st overall) of the 2007 draft, and signed as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs on July 5, 2013.
He has 75 goals and 121 assists in 298 AHL games with Toronto, Rochester and Portland.
He also has four goals and seven assists in 40 career NHL games with Buffalo and Florida.
The award is voted on by coaches, players and members of the media in each of the league’s 30 cities.
