Gotta See It: Matt Martin’s stealthy selfie

Most fans want to get a picture with their favourite player. In this case, a fan’s favourite player wanted a picture with them.

New York Islanders forward Matt Martin was at the mall along with his teammate Michael Grabner when he spotted a fan in an Islanders “Martin” jersey. Did Martin say hello and totally make the fan’s day? Nope! He snuck up behind the fan and took a selfie with them on an escalator.

Grabner posted the photo on his Twitter account. Hilarious, right? I mean, an obviously huge Matt Martin fan was standing right next to the guy, wearing his jersey, and he’ll never even know about it! Wait a sec – who’s this guy?

Huh? What’s this Michael Frumento guy talking about? Unless…

Reading further down the Twitter thread, it looks like the fan discovered that he missed out on meeting his favourite player and it happened on his birthday! Not to mention this guy’s friends are probably having a field day with this. All’s well that ends well, though.

Martin connected with his fan on Twitter and offered to meet him and sign his jersey after an upcoming game. If that isn’t a solid birthday gift, I don’t know what is.

This is the second time Matt Martin has appeared on this site recently. The last time was for this:

His nose might be messed up but at least his sense of humour is intact.
