Tim Leiweke will continue his current role as president and CEO of MLSE for up to another year until a successor is found, according to Sportsnet’s Bob McCown.
“I am told that [Leiweke] will remain with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment for one more year in the absence of finding anybody suitable to take his place,” McCown said Friday on Prime Time Sports on Sportsnet 590 The Fan.
When reached for comment, MLSE did not immediately respond.
On May 29, MLSE announced a search for a new CEO was ongoing and that Leiweke would remain with the organization as it continued its search for his replacement.
“We’ve made remarkable progress with Tim at the helm, and we are pleased that he has agreed to continue as CEO on an interim basis,” MLSE chairman Larry Tanenbaum said in a press release at the time.
Last summer, Leiweke announced he had decided he would leave the company by June 30, 2015 to pursue new opportunities in the sports and entertainment industry.
“It’s a privilege to work with the incredible MLSE team, and it’s a very positive time to be at the company,” Leiweke said in the same press release. “We’ve accomplished great things together. I’m happy to be here as long as I’m needed while the organization works to find the right leader to carry the momentum forward.”
In other Leiweke news, Tim’s younger brother Tod Leiweke resigned as CEO of the Tampa Bay Lightning Friday to become the new Chief Operating Officer of the NFL.
