McQuaid delivers dangerous hit on Sens’ Neil

Boston Bruins defenceman Adam McQuaid delivered a dangerous hit from behind on Ottawa Senators forward Chris Neil in the first period of the Sens-Bruins game Monday.

As Neil skated in to retrieve a loose puck behind the Bruins goal line, McQuaid hit Neil from behind and Neil crashed into the boards.

Neil was very slow to get up and was assisted off the ice then taken to the dressing room briefly before returning to the Sens bench several minutes later.

Senators defenceman Patrick Wiercioch came to the defence of his teammate and dropped the gloves with McQuaid.

The Bruins blueliner McQuaid was given a two-minute minor for boarding plus five minutes for fighting. Wiercioch on the other hand received a total of 19 minutes in penalties — a five-minute major for fighting, two minutes for instigating, a 10-minute misconduct for instigating, plus an extra two minutes for instigating with a visor on.

This is the second time in as many games that a Senators defenceman has received 19 penalty minutes on one play. Chris Phillips received the same set of penalties on Friday when he fought Micheal Haley in the Sens’ 3-2 win over the New York Rangers.
