Milan Lucic isn’t backing down from comments he made towards Montreal Canadiens forward Dale Weise.
After Montreal eliminated Boston Wednesday, the bruising Bruins winger allegedly told Weise (if you can read lips), “I’m going to [expletive] kill you next year,” as the two crossed paths during the traditional post-series handshake.
An unremorseful Lucic addressed the altercation Friday.
“I can’t take back what I said, so I’m not apologizing for what was said in the handshake,” Lucic told reporters in Boston. “I’m not the first guy to do it, I’m not the last guy to do it. I’m not sorry that I did it.”
Weise wouldn’t go into specific details about what was said following the Canadiens’ 3-1 win in Game 7, but suggested Lucic was being a poor loser.
Lucic was upset that Weise discussed the encounter with reporters in the first place.
“I don’t come running to anyone about anything. I deal with my problems myself. I don’t think much of the guys that feel the need to go and do something like that,” said Lucic, who added, “What’s said on the ice stays on the ice.”
On Friday, Weise told reporters: “You know what? I’m going to say it once: I never went into detail about it. I never made any comment on what he said. It got blown out of proportion.”
Lucic finished the playoffs with seven points in 12 post-season games, but was held pointless in the final four games of the Canadiens series.
“Our offence and goal scoring never let us down all season long. Unfortunately it wasn’t there for us when we needed it most,” Lucic added.
