Millions on Flames: At a crossroads

February 2, 2011, 2:19 PM

With a five-game win streak and points in 10 of their past 11 games a lot of folks don’t know what to make of the Calgary Flames.

I mean, who are these guys knocking on the door of the playoffs? Their names are the same, but the results produced… well that is very much a different matter.

From disappointing to diligent. Disconcerting to determined. Quite a change.

“Change” is the operative word and it starts with attitude. As a high-ranking Flames official told me it was needed and frankly the results are obvious.

Still, questions swirl. Do the Flames hold the course, make the playoffs and then get bounced early? Or do they hunt for draft picks and reorganize in one way or another? Recent success makes for an argument either way.

Word is Flames brass are meeting this week in the Stampede City to discuss just that. It could be lively.

Business sense says go for all you can get; home playoff dates are worth it. Hockey sense questions the future and if the Flames need to readjust the ship now.

An interesting debate that one month ago most would suggest could not take place. Don’t they know the problems they are causing?
