Millions on NHL: Bump in the road

VANCOUVER—Fortunately for the game of hockey, over the past decade the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks have played some amazing games.

Very few have been lacking for interest, intensity or plain and simply hate.

Unfortunately, it’s no longer the case today.

The Canucks are Stanley Cup favourites and they should be. They have won six in a row and have dominated the league for two months.

The Vancouver Sun has named 10 solid reasons why Canucks are No. 1. Our Craig MacEwen, Dan Murphy, Don Taylor, John Shorthouse and John Garrett can’t stop doing the happy dance.

But don’t blame them.

Yet it’s a shame. I miss the old days. However, a 7-2 loss to Vancouver at home and a deplorable third period, a recent upheaval in upper management and horrible inconsistency can do that.

The Flames have to earn respect this season, and they are trying. However, it’s clear out here on the coast they have very little. One radio guy here called the Flames a speed bump for the ‘Nucks getting ready for the Red Wings on the weekend.

It’s on the Flames, no getting around it.

There have been so many memories in the past decade, wouldn’t it be special if we could add a few more?

Frankly, speed bumps on the road annoy me. But they are there for a reason aren’t they?
