Currently there is nothing in the NHL’s new collective bargaining agreement that would allow NHL players to compete in the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
Many players and fans have expressed their desire for NHLers’ participation at the Olympics and Rene Fasel, the IIHF president and member of the International Olympic Committee, has said he hopes to work with the NHL to ensure both sides can come to an agreement.
The 2014 Games begin on Feb. 7 next year in Russia.
