NHL cancels remainder of preseason games

The NHL announced the official cancellation of the remainder of preseason schedule on Thursday.

Cancellation notices have been trickling in from individual teams in regards to their preseason games, but the league made it official league-wide with Thursday’s announcement.

NHL players have been locked out since Sept. 15, and the nixing of preseason games means there will be no hockey through Oct. 8.

There is still the possibility that the lockout drags on well past that date. The NHLPA and NHL are scheduled to meet for more negotiations Friday in New York.

The regular season is still scheduled to start on Oct. 11 with four games featuring the Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens, Calgary Flames, and Vancouver Canucks north of the border.
