The National Hockey League has cancelled the 2012 preseason schedule through Sept. 30, the league announced on Wednesday.
The league’s collective bargaining agreement expired at midnight ET on Sept. 16, triggering the NHL’s fourth work stoppage in 20 years.
Many players — including Alex Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin, Sergei Gonchar, Ilya Kovalchuk and Jason Spezza — have signed with teams in Europe as a result of the lockout.
