NHL looking at decreasing size of goalie jerseys

George Stroumboulopoulos and Elliotte Friedman discuss all the top headlines from around the NHL including the report that teams are enquiring about the availability of Toronto Maple Leafs sniper Phil Kessel.

NHL goaltenders better not get used to their current uniforms.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, there was lots of conversation at the last competition committee meeting about cutting down the size of jerseys and pants for goaltenders.

A change could be made after next season.

“Don’t be surprised if in 2016-17 the (NHL) and the Players’ Association try to work together to cut those down so it’s only for protection and not stopping the puck,” Friedman said Saturday on Hockey Night in Canada.

The reduction of the size of jerseys and pants is one of many discussion points among league circles in order to ensure that goal scoring does not become an issue across the NHL.
