Vancouver forward Henrik Sedin recorded his 700th career NHL point Thursday night as he had two assists in the Canucks 4-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Daniel Sedin, who has played 24 fewer games than Henrik is still 15 points shy of his twin brother, but should reach the 700 point plateau in 2012.
Here is a look at some other NHLers who are on the verge of significant career milestones:
Barring any last-minute lineup changes, Thomas Vanek and Derek Roy will both play their 500th career NHL game tonight as the Buffalo Sabres host the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 499 games Vanek has produced 415 points while Roy has amassed 403 points.
The last time two players on the same team played their 500th career game on the same night was Nov. 28 of this year when Joni Pitkanen and Tim Gleason both reached the milestone with the Hurricanes. In November 2007, Henrik Sedin and Brad Isbister both played their 500th career NHL games on the same night while with the Canucks.
Jarome Iginla
The Calgary Flames captain is just four goals away from reaching the 500 goal mark. When he scores the milestone goal, he will become the 42nd player in NHL history to reach the half-century mark as well as tie Flames and Leafs great Lanny McDonald, who retired with 500 career goals.
Jaromir Jagr
The future Hall-of-Famer is set to play in his 1,300th career NHL game on Saturday as his Philadelphia Flyers take on the Boston Bruins. The Czech superstar is currently ranked 9th in career NHL points, with 656 goals, 969 assists for 1,625 points.
Daniel Alfredsson
The Sens captain is three goals shy of 400. The 39-year-old surpassed 1,000 points last season and currently ranks 64th on the all-time points list with 1,041. In 26 games this season, he has eight goals and 18 points.
Ilya Kovalchuk
The New Jersey Devils forward is currently ranked 100th in NHL history in goals scored with 378. With one more goal, the Russian will leapfrog Claude Lemieux and Ted Lindsay. At just 28-years old, he is currently the youngest active player ranked in the top 100 goal scorers of all-time.
Marian Gaborik
The Slovakian is currently sitting on 298 career goals. In 29 games this season Gaborik has 15 goals. If he reaches 300 goals before Feb. 15 he will join Kovalchuck and Alex Ovechkin as the only active players under 30-years old to score at least 300 goals.
Mike Knuble
Washington’s go-to power forward needs to suit up for just two more games to earn his silver stick for playing 1,000 NHL games. Also, if Wade Redden ever finds himself back in the NHL, he just needs to play six more games to reach 1,000.
Marc Savard
If the Bruins forward is well enough to make another comeback from concussion problems, he needs just one assist to reach 500 for his career. Patrik Elias and Martin St. Louis are also closing in on 500 assists with 496 and 493 assists, respectively.
