Jarome Iginla will get a shot on Boston’s top line and he better succeed there if he hopes to surpass the stats set by oddsmakers this week.
The longtime Calgary captain was uninspiring in his brief run in Pittsburgh, but seems to be a good bet to bounce back in Boston.
“The logic goes that he scored 14 goals in half a season so 28 is a sensible benchmark for a full season,” said Jack Randall of OddsShark.com. The over-under on his goal total in 2013-14 was set at 27.5 and his point total at 61.5.
If he maintains 2013 production into 2014, he would go over in both cases. He has scored at least 28 goals every season since his third year back in 1998-99.
He’s not the only former longtime captain of a Canadian team to merit odds consideration. Ottawa’s Daniel Alfredsson is now Detroit’s Daniel Alfredsson and Bodog set 19.5 and 48.5 as his goal and point total over-under lines.
The player that Senator fans are hoping will replace and surpass Alfie’s production is Bobby Ryan, acquired in a trade with Anaheim. His over-under on goals is 25.5.
Toronto fans hope David Clarkson will justify his big-money free agent deal with more than 23.5 goals. The former Devil winger brings more to the table than scoring but fans will expect lots of goals as well.
The new props also feature Daniel Briere, who sees a modest total of 15.5 goals as he joins the Montreal Canadiens after two injury-plagued seasons. And fellow Hab signing George Parros also made the cut for free agent stat props. Predictably, his over-under is on penalty minutes (125.5) and not points.
“We were hoping they might post odds on how long fashion-conscious Montreal would tolerate that horrible Parros mustache, but no luck on that front,” said Randall.
