NHL suspends Lightning’s Thompson two games

The NHL has suspended Tampa Bay Lightning centre Nate Thompson two games for his hit on New Jersey Devils forward Matt D’Agostini during Friday night’s game.

At 11:13 of the second period, Thompson made contact with the head of D’Agostini at centre ice. There was no penalty called on the play.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Thompson will forfeit $9,729.72.

The Lightning beat the Devils 5-4 in a shootout, with the 28-year-old Thompson notching a goal in the second period for Tampa Bay, tying the game at two.
