Ducks, Penguins interested in Leafs’ Bolland

Dave Bolland has a history with the Vancouver Canucks from his days in Chicago.

If the Toronto Maple Leafs are unable to re-sign centre Dave Bolland, the Anaheim Ducks and Pittsburgh Penguins are interested, according to Brad May.

Bolland is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2013-14 season and is reportedly seeking a long-term deal that would pay him up to $5 million per season.

Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos reported Tuesday that the Leafs are making calls on the 27-year-old.

Bolland hasn’t played since November after severing an ankle tendon in a game against the Vancouver Canucks.

Prior to his injury, Bolland put up six goals, four assists, and 18 penalty minutes in 15 games for the Leafs while playing solid defensive hockey as well.

Bolland is expected to return from his injury in the near future, but it’s unclear exactly when the two-time Stanley Cup winner will suit up for a game.

The Leafs originally acquired Bolland in a deal with the Chicago Blackhawks for a package of draft picks at the 2013 NHL Draft.
