EDMONTON — Edmonton Oilers fans will have a bit of extra help in the stands later this year.

Oilers president Patrick LaForge says the copper and blue will be the first Canadian National Hockey League team to have cheerleaders.

LaForge says the cheer team will "enhance the in-game experience."

Cheerleaders already exist in 23 NHL arenas.

LaForge says it’s something fans have been asking for.

A cheer team calendar will also be coming out for the holiday season.
