Oilers’ Hall named NHL’s first star of week

NEW YORK — Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall is the NHL’s first star of the week after leading all players with seven assists and nine points.

Hall had a goal and three assists in a 5-4 loss to San Jose on Tuesday, had an assist in each of Edmonton’s next two games the capped the week with a goal and two assists in the Oilers’ 4-2 win over Anaheim on Sunday.

Hall ranks seventh in NHL scoring with a career-high 77 points.

Colorado goaltender Semyon Varlamov is the league’s second star.

He compiled a 3-0-1 record with a 1.42 goals-against average, .950 save percentage and one shutout to help the Avalanche move two points ahead of Chicago for the second seed in the Central Division.

Montreal forward Max Pacioretty is the third star.

He led all players with four goals and added two assists to help the Canadiens move four points ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning for second place in the Atlantic Division.
