Oilers’ Patrick Maroon to have hearing for hit on Drew Doughty

Patrick Maroon was given a match penalty after hitting Drew Doughty in the head with his shoulder and then fighting Derek Forbort.

Edmonton Oilers forward Pat Maroon will have a hearing Wednesday for his hit on Los Angeles Kings defenceman Drew Doughty.

The play occurred late in the second period of the Oilers’ 5-0 loss to the Kings Tuesday. Doughty was skating behind the Kings’ net when Maroon hit him in the head with his shoulder.

Kings defenceman Derek Forbort then stepped in and fought Maroon. Maroon was given a match penalty on the play and a game misconduct, along with a fighting major.

Doughty left the game, though he did return in the third period.
