The Ottawa Senators assigned forward Mika Zibanejad to the team’s American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton Monday.
The Huddinge, Sweden native performed well last season registering seven goals, 20 points and a plus-9 rating in 42 games with the Sens. During the lockout, Zibanejad played 23 games with Binghamton where he had 11 points.

Zibanejad was drafted sixth overall by the Sens in the 2011 NHL Draft. He did not need to clear waivers before being sent down.
The 20-year-old was one of 30 players cut by the Sens Monday. The team also returned forward Curtis Lazar, who the Sens selected 17th overall in the 2013 NHL Draft, to the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League.

— The Calgary Flames assigned forwards Roman Horak and Blair Jones, goaltender Reto Berra, and defenceman Patrick Sieloff to the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat.
— The Tampa Bay Lightning sent the third-overall pick from this summer’s NHL Draft, Jonathan Drouin, back down to the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads. The team also sent top prospect Brett Connolly down to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL.
— The Carolina Hurricanes sent defenceman Ryan Murphy to Charlotte of the AHL. Murphy was the team’s first-round pick in 2011.
— The New York Islanders loaned 15 players, including Ryan Strome, to Bridgeport of the AHL. Four players, including veteran Radek Martinek, were released from tryout agreements; the team’s first-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, Ryan Pulock, was returned to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL.
— The Dallas Stars placed forwards Scott Glennie and Rich Peverley, and defenceman Aaron Rome injured non-roster.
— The Buffalo Sabres assigned Luke Adam and Alexander Sulzer the Rochester Americans in the AHL.
