Ottawa Senators shut down Kyle Turris indefinitely

The Canadiens swept the season series with the Maple Leafs, the Senators came back to win a wild one, certain players continue to be red hot, and so much more on a busy Saturday in the NHL.

The Ottawa Senators suffered a setback in their attempt to climb into a wild-card spot Monday.

Kyle Turris will be shut down indefinitely to deal with his high ankle sprain, general manager Bryan Murray announced.

Turris, 26, has scored 13 goals and 17 assists in 57 games this season.

The top-line centre’s last game was Feb. 27 in Calgary but he has not registered a point since Jan. 9 and has not scored a goal since Dec. 14.

Visibly frustrated, Turris told reporters Monday that his injury occurred on Dec. 5 versus the Islanders and that he re-injured the ankle Jan. 18 in San Jose but continued to play.

The Senators enter Monday’s action four points behind Pittsburgh for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs, and the Penguins have three games in hand.
